WHAT IS STRESS URINARY INCONTINENCE (SUI)?
A urine leak is an uncontrollable response of your bladder muscles to stress.
With Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), your sphincter muscles involuntarily open due to the increased pressure on the bladder and urethra. As a result, you may have a urine leak whenever you sneeze, cough, laugh or exercise.
In more severe cases of SUI, you may experience stress incontinence with your daily activities such as, walking, getting up from a seated position, or bending over.
Every woman with SUI will experience varying degrees of stress incontinence of urine.

WHAT CAUSES URINARY INCONTINENCE IN WOMEN?
Stress incontinence is more common in women than in men. The main reason is because of pregnancy and childbirth.
The weight of carrying a baby and the trauma inflicted on the body in vaginal childbirth, especially if you’ve had more than one, greatly alters the structure of the pelvic floor muscles.
These muscles are responsible for supporting the bladder, the uterus, and the bowel, also known as the pelvic organs of the female body.
In pregnancy, the uterus expands with the growth of a baby. As you may know, carrying a baby adds a lot of pressure to your bladder.
The pelvic floor muscles are designed to carry the weight of an expanding bladder and bowel, which is an everyday occurrence.
Carrying a baby for 9 months is a progressive yet constant demand on the pelvic floor muscles.
The added weight and pressure can cause the muscles to stretch and become lax, thus decreasing in functionality.
These muscles continue to stretch even more with a vaginal delivery.
As your OBGYN, we discuss with you the importance of doing Kegel exercises and other steps to take to prepare for delivery and postpartum.
Though every pregnancy impacts these muscles differently, Kegel exercises may help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles to decrease bladder weakness and prevent urge incontinence.

STRESS INCONTINENCE IS COMMON WITH AGING
The aging process comes with a slew of physical symptoms.
Just like what you may be noticing with your skin, that it is looser and starting to sag, the same goes for the tissue in your vagina. This is caused by your body’s decrease in collagen production.
Decreased collagen means loss of elasticity and tightness. The strength and tone of the muscles and tissue also decrease as its laxity increases.
With lax tissue and muscle structure, the sphincter muscles that release and contain urine also become less effective to control the flow of urine causing urine leakage.
As it seems, the older you get, the more at risk you are of suffering from stress urinary incontinence.
But this is no longer has to be the case.
North Valley Women’s Care has hope for you!

INTRODUCING THE VIVEVE TREATMENT - A REVOLUTIONARY SOLUTION TO TREAT STRESS INCONTINENCE
We know of the struggles that our patients go through when their lives are run by their overactive bladder and all too common accidents.
We are happy to provide relief to you by introducing the Viveve Treatment.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE VIVEVE TREATMENT
The Viveve Treatment is a single-session in-office procedure that takes no more than an hour to complete.
This treatment uses a device that emits cryogen-cooled monopolar radiofrequency (CMRF) from a small probe that is applied to the external and internal tissue of your vagina.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE CMRF TECHNOLOGY
The tissue of your vagina will be treated with the heat of the radiofrequency (RF) energy to instigate collagen restoration and reproduction.
Restoring collagen to the vaginal tissue increases its strength and decreases its laxity.
The cryogen-cooling component of the treatment protects the delicate tissue from the heat of the RF energy.
This dual process also makes the treatment more comfortable for patients without requiring any anesthetic.
BECAUSE WE GENUINELY CARE FOR YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY
This state-of-the-art treatment has undergone clinical trials and has been tested for effectiveness and safety.
This treatment has also been approved by the FDA.
